Bone Regeneration for Dental Implants: Horizontal and Vertical
About this Seminar
Vertical bone grafting has long been considered the holy grail in periodontal reconstruction and implant dentistry. Prosthetically driven placement of dental implant to restore the edentulous sites requires restoration of alveolar bone in all spatial dimensions – horizontal and vertical. Furthermore, the quality of regenerated bone must also be optimal for longterm success. Different techniques have been used to tackle this problem including Autogenous Block Grafts, Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) and Split Bone Block Technique also known as Khoury Technique. No technique is perfect and each caries risks, advantages and disadvantages.
In this lecture we will focus on Horizontal and Vertical bone reconstruction. We will look into literature for guidance and to establish realistic expectations. We will go over surgical cases to demonstrate vertical alveolar reconstruction in different areas including the Esthetic Zone.
Objectives:
- Understand basic principles of bone regeneration
- Introduction of different iterations of Guided Bone Regeneration
- Introduction of Khoury Technique (Split Bone Block Technique)
- Management of complications
