Temporomandibular Dysfunction (TMD) Pathway

About this Seminar

This presentation provides information on a framework for a Temporomandibular Dysfunction Pathway, identifying the different primary practitioners that may be first contact for patients and how a collaborative healthcare environment can provide more timely and efficient care for this patient population.


Course Objectives:



  • Understand/Review classification system being utilized for this patient population

  • Understand the various practitioners and roles that exist within the assessment and treatment of TMD

  • Understand the referral options and potential pathway of care for conservative and non-conservative management of TMD

About Trent Remple

MPT BScPHSI BScKIN

Trent Rempel graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiology (2009), Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology (2011), and a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy (2013).

With over 12 years of clinical experience, Trent has developed his clinical skills and academic knowledge through continuing education. Having completed level 3 upper quadrant and level 3 lower quadrant courses within the Orthopedic AIM Level Education System. He has completed post-graduate training in the assessment and treatment of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD). His ongoing independent study focuses on headache, migraine, TMD, and tinnitus, as well as other craniofacial pain conditions.

About Amanda Petrie

MPT BScPHSI

Amanda Petrie graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiology (2007) and a Master’s degree in Physical Therapy (2009).

With over 16 years of clinical experience, Amanda has continued to advance her knowledge and skills through continuing education. In 2011, she completed the competency-based Vestibular Rehabilitation course at the Emory University School of Medicine. In 2014, she attended the advanced vestibular competency course at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. As well as many other vestibular and musculoskeletal courses, primarily focusing on balance and dizziness disorders, jaw disorders, headaches/migraines, and postural disorders.

About Dr. Amanda Gruza

DMD, FRCDC

Dr. Amanda Gruza graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, College of Dentistry in 2010 and subsequently completed a one-year General Practice Residency (GPR) at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon. Dr. Gruza then spent several years in private practice as a general dentist, and also supervised dental

students as a part-time clinical faculty member at the University of Saskatchewan College of Dentistry.

In 2019, Dr. Gruza completed the four-year, hospital-based combined oral medicine-oral pathology residency program through the University of British Columbia. Dr. Gruza is now a boardcertified Oral & Maxillofacial Pathologist, as well as a boardcertified Oral Medicine Specialist. She currently works at Saskatoon Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology and in the Saskatchewan Health Authority as an Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist and Oral Medicine Specialist. She also teaches University of Saskatchewan undergraduate students and post-graduate medical residents.

When she is not at work Dr. Gruza loves going on adventures with her husband and children.
